Mariana Duprat and Seth Trudeau are the deviants/geniuses/slackers behind Superherolympics.
We designed Superherolympics as an immersive experience that would serve as a springboard for friendship and collaboration between kids from different cultural backgrounds. Students who play the game will be better prepared to work harmoniously in diverse groups.
We held adaptability as a major design principle in creating the game: we wanted it to be available for essentially no cost for facilitators who might only want to use it occasionally. At the same time, we created a more durable and polished version for frequent gamers to purchase for around $50.
If you’re a teacher considering Superherolympics, start with the print & play version. Adapting it to your context and getting it setup may take you from 30 to 60 minutes, and a full game should take 45 to 60 minutes. It is best suited to a playground or playing field, but we have seen teachers run the game in a classroom, with some slight modifications (see our facilitator’s guide).
